Let's make it clear up front - this book is written for someone new to the jewelry sales business. If you're already selling well at craft shows and online, you probably know the things in this book. That's fine. The book is aimed at the people who need hand holding through the basics of getting started in the world of jewelry sales.
The book starts right from the beginning. How to define your style. How to find a niche in the crowded market. It talks you through the economy of buying in bulk, gives you steps on creating a market for your creations. It gives you wise advice that newbies might not think about - like avoiding fads that could leave you with tons of inventory when they move on.
The book helps you figure out how to get to your audience. It gives tips for being professional, organized, and presenting quality packaging. It talks about pricing your items to cover your various costs properly.
One down side - the book talk about different displays but there are no photos. I'd really like to see images of what works and what doesn't work.
On to the tips. Create an affiliate program, lure friends and family into helping sell the items by giving them monetary incentive. If you're using Etsy to sell wares, the sweet spot is under $25 an item. List a few each day to keep your listings in the top of the results area.
There's business information here too - creating a business plan, setting up goals, sticking to deadlines. Work efficiently - create items in bulk, optimize your time.
All in all, great information for the person new to jewelry selling! |

Very useful, step by step ideas and information on how to go about selling (and profiting) from your creative work.
Even though I'm shooting for higher end (less Etsy and more personal collectors) the book is helpful and supportive.
The author is generous with her knowledge and the book is well written and organized with genuine information, not
filler or fluff.

This book is exactly what I needed, and even more than I expected. It explains every aspect of starting your own jewelry business, from personal professionalism and company image to the bones of legal requirements and smart business thinking. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is interested selling their jewelry in stores, selling online, or selling at trunk shows and street fairs. It answered all of my questions and many I wouldn't have thought to ask.

| Finally, a book that really tells you how to do this stuff. Even if you don't have experience in business, or if you're not an expert at making jewelry, this book walks you through how to create your own business selling your jewelry. I am currently in the process of starting my own jewelry business and this book is the best guide I've found. Practical tips, great advice and lots of real life examples make it a wonderful book. If you want to start your own business or even if you just casually sell on Etsy or at craft fairs this book is a must have. |
Save your money for your own business

I bought this book based on the glowing reviews left by other readers. I'm sorry I bought it. The information is just too basic and common sense. You won't really learn anything about how to start a jewelry business except in the most basic of terms. I was hoping the author would have given some real case studies to see what she wrote about in action. Instead, it's nothing more than basic outlines of the topics on the book's cover. For example, I just got back from the Tucson Gem shows. I learned this was the venue to find almost any type of stone material one could imagine for jewelry making. The author lists a very basic one page "does and don'ts" about visiting the shows, but doesn't even talk about what it's like, or how to strike deals with the suppliers, or even which shows are best for what. For such an amazing event in the jewerly world, she gives you a website to visit vs. personal reflections.
Save your money. Take jewelry classes at a local venue and meet people making jewelry. I've learned more about selling jewelry from other students who sell their work than I did from reading this book. |
